Family Story
The owner of the destroyed house is Alla Kharchenko, 68 years old, a beautiful and sensitive grandmother who has experienced great sorrow. Alla is a retiree and lived alone. She has a daughter named Olga, 48 years old, who is not employed but sells paintings she creates. Olga used to live in Kyiv with her husband, and they currently reside together in Kyiv. Alla had a grandson who was at war and tragically died on February 10th, 2023, in Bakhmut. He was shot by a tank at a distance of 6 meters. It is impossible to convey the emotional state of the grandmother and mother in words.
On February 24th, Alla was alone at home when she heard an explosion, and the windows instantly shattered. Alla was thrown back, and she lost hearing in one ear. She then heard the screams of her relative, who lived nearby (the wife of Alla’s brother). The relative was screaming uncontrollably because her own son went to Alla’s house and was caught in the blast. Half of his head was blown off, and he died instantly. They buried him in the Writers’ House, amidst the explosions, on March 17th, 2022.
During that shelling, Alla’s brother was also injured as a fragment hit his knee. They all went with volunteers to a hospital in Kyiv, and Alla stayed there as she has a sister in Kyiv with whom she resided. She returned when Irpin was cleared, and she currently lives in a modular housing complex in Dubky. Alla is very tender, vulnerable, and grieving, but she is so kind that everyone in the housing complex loves her.
