Their Family Story
Larisa and Viktor Kucherenko left Makarov on March 11th. They drove out under heavy shelling. They escaped to the Khmelnytsky region to visit relatives. As soon as the Kyiv region was liberated, on April 5, they returned to Makarov. When they arrived, their house was completely destroyed. The couple was in despair. They began to contact the Makarov administration, asking for help. They were told that there was no money in the budget even to help them take out what was left of their house. The family realized that there was no one to help. And Larisa began to dismantle the rubble of her house herself. Volunteers helped a little. At first, the family spent the night with neighbors. This was very embarrassing for them because they were ashamed to burden strangers. In the garden, there was a surviving pantry (a small shed for a garden inventory). The family decided to insulate the pantry and even built a small stove. Now, that’s where they live. They dream of a modular house where there is a place to wash and cook food.
