To stay on their land while they rebuild their lives

Family Story

Nazar Nagornyi is a 14-year-old boy whose mother, Natalia, tragically died in a car accident in 2021 when he was only 13 years old. His father, Igor Nagornyi, is the owner of the house, and his grandmother, Lidia Mukha, supports the family. They lived in a house by the roadside in the village of Berezovka.

In 2022, the war started, and on the third day, columns of Russian tanks were already passing by their house. The occupants repeatedly entered their home, confiscating phones and threatening the men with their guns. Despite the danger, Nazar actively helped other villagers, delivering food to the elderly and caring for abandoned animals. He and his father lived every day, constantly risking their lives.

On March 18, a battle took place on the highway, resulting in the destruction of a large column of Russian equipment that was moving toward Kyiv. The Ukrainian artillery fire caused the house to catch fire. The family lost their home and became displaced. They had to seek shelter in Nazar’s grandmother’s small house, where there is not enough space for the teenager to have his own room. They don’t have a place to go back to.

Local media outlets have covered Nazar and his family’s story, but unfortunately, they have not received any assistance. Igor, Nazar’s father, works tirelessly day and night to save money for a new home, and Nazar’s grandmother, Lidia, is elderly and can only do so much to support her loved ones. The family faces significant challenges, relying on their own resilience and determination to rebuild their lives.
