Help us build a home for the Portnoy Sergey.

Sergey's Story

Sergei is 70-year-old. He found himself at home on February 24th when suddenly gunfire erupted on the porch of his house. The rumble of heavy machinery outside signaled the seriousness of the situation. Without a cellar, Sergei and his neighbor decided to stay in the same house and take care of each other. The lights went out early on, but they were fortunate to have some food and supplies in the cellar. Volunteers also provided them with food when the shelling subsided. They took turns fetching water, ensuring there was a chance to help each other if something happened. After four months, a shell hit the neighbor’s house, leading to his tragic death. His friend’s death became too much for Sergei, and he decided to leave the village with the help of some volunteers. Now he lives in Kropyvnytskyi, in the center for internally displaced persons. Sergei lives on his pension and has no idea how to rebuild his native home. Nevertheless, he longs to return to his land, where he grew up and where he has deep family roots.
