Help Viktor and Valentyna Tkachuk Find a permanent home at "Our People" Senior Center

Their Story

Valentyna (71) and her husband Viktor (78) spent their lives in Oleshky, a town that once offered them quiet routines and familiar faces. When the war began, that quiet was replaced with terror. Their neighborhood endured flooding, frequent blackouts, and relentless shelling. Each day became a struggle for survival.

As fires broke out across the city, homes burned with no fire brigades to respond.

Neighbors tried desperately to save what they could, but resources were scarce, and hope dwindled. Faced with unbearable danger, the Tkachuks made the heartbreaking decision to leave their home. Their journey to safety took four or five grueling days, marked by fear and exhaustion.

Now, Valentyna and Viktor live in the village of Khotyanivka, sharing a cramped rented apartment with their daughter and her family, who are also displaced. Life under one roof is crowded and tense, but they endure because there is no alternative. In their later years, instead of enjoying peace and dignity, they live with uncertainty and longing for a home of their own.
