Their Family Story

This is a story about Lydiia and Fedir Yukhimenko and their two sons, Ilya, 13 years old, and Mykola, 7 years old. They left their home in Makariv on March 8th, but they didn’t want to leave. When it came to their neighbor, they realized they had to leave to save their children.

They traveled without a destination, and by chance ended up with strangers in the Zhytomyr region. The strangers took them in as their own, feeding and protecting them. On April 5th, before returning to Makariv, they learned that their home was gone.

 

They returned on April 11th and began to insulate the summer kitchen. Volunteers brought them a bed and some furniture, and helped them build a stove in the summer kitchen. They have been living there ever since.

 

Now, they are requesting a one or two-room house.
