Help Volodymyr and Iryna Ziankovskyi Find a permanent home at "Our People" Senior Center
Their Story
Iryna (66) and Volodymyr (68) built their lives in Avdiivka. She worked in trade and as a cook, while he labored as a driver and miner. Their modest apartment was full of laughter and warmth, until 2022 brought destruction to their doorstep.
For two terrifying weeks, they hid in their basement as shells rained down on their neighborhood. When a narrow window of safety appeared, they threw their dog into the car and fled under heavy bombardment. Their once-secure home was left behind, and their lives reduced to the essentials they could carry.
They stayed briefly in Kremenchuk, but even there threats loomed. Fearing that occupiers might blow up the local dam, they fled again, this time to Vorzel. They found a house to rent, but soon the owner put it up for sale. Now they face the impossible challenge of finding housing they can afford. Their daughter, also displaced, rents a small apartment in Irpin with her family. Like so many others, the Zainkovskyi family is trapped in the
exhausting cycle of displacement, constantly searching for safety that seems always out of reach.
