Their Family Story
Alla Plevako works as an accountant. She has two daughters, Kristina who is 16 years old and in 10th grade, and Veronica who is 4 years old and stays at home with Kristina while Alla is at work. Her son, Petr, who was a builder before the war, was conscripted into the Armed Forces and is currently serving on the Zaporozhian direction.
In the early days of the war, Alla and her family fled from Makariv to the nearby village of Lipovka, thinking it would be safer. But that village was also occupied, so they had to escape to the Rivne region to stay with relatives of acquaintances. On March 7th, neighbors called to inform them that their house in Makariv had been hit by a missile and was destroyed. This was a devastating shock for the family.
On March 11th, Petr returned to Makariv to rescue his aunt and grandmother, who was 100 years old. He miraculously made it to Makariv and successfully brought his family to safety. After returning to the Rivne region, he immediately joined the Armed Forces.
The family returned to Makariv on May 11th. They are currently in the process of demolishing their old house and await the end of the war and Petr’s return. They hope that, as a builder, he will be able to rebuild their home one day.
