The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation Is Sponsoring A Home For Dovbiy Family

The Dovbiy Family

On February 24th, the sound of shelling echoed all around, bewildering the neighbors who couldn’t comprehend or believe that war had erupted. Ludmila and her mother, Raissa, sought refuge in the cellar, enduring two harrowing months. Food and medicine dwindled as the village fell under occupation.

As hunger gnawed and Russian soldiers invaded their home, stealing valuables and provisions, their situation became dire. Raissa’s health deteriorated visibly, her skin changing color due to the deteriorating conditions. In the dead of night, Ludmila and her mother, traversing treacherous marshes, reached territory under Ukrainian control. Military vehicles swiftly transported them to the nearest point of evacuation, where they received urgent medical attention.

After a month in the hospital, they learned their home was gone, leaving them with nowhere to return. However, they found solace in a garage where Ludmila and her mother now reside, clinging to each other amidst the remnants of their shattered lives.
