Walk in the footsteps of our Hot Meal Center patrons.
Taste the delicious food provided daily to the elderly, disabled, and mothers with children. Hot Meal Center Head Chef Viktoria Yarova will prepare the “Wednesday” menu.

Chef from Ukraine: A Taste of Tradition
Viktoria spent 15 years working as a head chef in restaurants in Kharkiv. She has two children: her son, Vlad, who is 28, and her daughter, Miroslava, who is 13. Viktoria lived her entire life in the town of Derhachi, in the Kharkiv region. When the war began, her city faced some of the heaviest shelling, and she was forced to flee to western Ukraine with her daughter. They spent three difficult months there, with no money and few resources.
Once she heard that the shelling in her hometown had decreased, Viktoria made the brave decision to return. Back home, she focused on helping the elderly who lived near her, offering them as much support as she could.
When the opportunity arose to open a Hot Meals Center in her town, Viktoria was the first to reach out to us. Her professional culinary skills, combined with her kind and generous spirit, have been invaluable. She is always proactive and is deeply grateful for the chance to help her community while doing the work she loves.
Now, Viktoria is coming to our event to make the same food that people will eat at our Hot Meals Centers in Ukraine.

Liudmyla, 66
My name is Liudmyla Ivanivna, I am 66 years old, and I live in Derhachi. During the shelling, my house was seriously damaged: the windows were shattered, and part of the wall was destroyed. The garden in the yard was ruined, and the gates were broken.
Alla, 84
My name is Alla Ivanivna, and I am 84 years old. During the shelling, I suffered a concussion; the explosion was very powerful. Half of my house is gone, everything is destroyed. There is extensive damage: the walls, the roof, the furniture—everything is shattered.
Halyna, 85
My name is Halyna Petrivna, and I am 85 years old. I live in Derhachi. During this time, I have been caught in shelling several times. My house has been repeatedly damaged: the explosions destroyed the roof and walls, and part of the rooms are no longer livable. Each time, I have to hide in the basement, but the fear and destruction have taken a toll on my health.
Andrii, 70
My name is Andrii Ivanovych, and I have lived in Derhachi for 70 years. I have never seen or heard of such horror before. My family has relocated to another city, so I spend time alone during the explosions and shelling, which have also impacted my yard. Some of the shrapnel hit the roof and windows, and it’s difficult for me to deal with all of this because of my age.
Kateryna, 75
My name is Kateryna Stepanivna, and I am 75 years old. I live in the town of Derhachi. During the shelling, my house was significantly damaged; the roof and windows were destroyed. The yard was also affected, and the fence was knocked down.
