Vyshpolski Family
stay on their land while they rebuild their lives
No Place Like Home
The Vyshpolski Family: Alexander, Irina, and daughter Katya (24 years old) live in the town of Irpin. When attacks on the town began, they hid in their basement for three days to remain in their home.
When it was clear that the battle would not end quickly, the Wyshpolskys left the basement and went to a neighboring village to sleep, wash and eat.
“When we were driving along Irpin, we realized the scale of the tragedy. We saw a number of Russian tanks and equipment heading toward our town. There was a feeling of doom that everyone would die and the city would be razed to the ground.”
The family escaped, but a rocket flew into their house. While they are grateful to still be alive, it is hard to deal with the loss of their home.
“We we returned to Irpin on April 14, the city was half destroyed. A putrid smell was everywhere. The town was littered with burnt equipment and the roads were destroyed. It was hard to take it all in.”
Until now, the family was staying in the home of an acquaintance who fled to Europe, but they are returning leaving this family without a home. .
