Female Paramedics Risk Their Lives to Save Others

$1200 saves them

"A female paramedic is like a truck. . . We carry sidearms, we carry backpacks, and we sometimes carry the wounded man and his weapon."

As the Russian assault has intensified, the government in Ukraine has enacted martial law, requiring men ages 18 to 60 to stay in the country and join civil defense units.  These men are the untrained civilians who are being issued rifles and being assigned to keep watch, man checkpoints and help coordinate positions.  Women have stepped in to work as paramedics, often risking their own lives to drag wounded men from the trenches and the elderly from bombed buildings.

In an effort to protect themselves, they wear protective vests.  However, the vests come with their own hazards. They are made for men and add an extra 20 pounds to these already exhausted women who are pulling out men sometimes twice their weight while still carrying side arms and a medical backpack.  Under this stress, one woman broke her back trying to save a civilian defender.

To Ukraine with Love has provided 10 vests to female paramedics with the goal to deliver 60 more.  Because these vests are made of much lighter components and are fitted to women, they are $1200 each–almost 4 times more expensive than regular body armor.

Please donate to save these women from injury by bullet, rocket, or struggle to save the wounded.
