Their Family Story

Polishchuk Tatyana (79), her sons Igor and Gennadiy with his wife Irina, daughter Maria, son-in-law, granddaughter, and Polina (2) used to live together. From Irpen, Gennadiy with his wife, daughter, and her family left on March 5th. They were driving on luck because they knew that cars were being shelled. Their city district was heavily bombed. Opposite their house, a multi-story building was completely destroyed. The granddaughter was very scared of the explosions and was constantly crying. The family remembers that the fighting did not stop for a minute. There was a constantly dense smoke. They sat in the basement.

Tatyana and Igor did not want to leave. They believed that it would not be for long. Tatyana left on March 12th. It was already unbearable to endure. There was no electricity, gas, water. They sat hungry in the basement. Irina with her family, already in evacuation, called all volunteers to take Tatyana and Igor out. But no one wanted to go. It was very dangerous. But by a miracle, representatives of one church were found who agreed to take them out. By a miracle, Irina reached Tatyana and said at what exact time the guys would come to pick them up. So Tatyana and Igor were taken out.

During the crossing over the bridge, one of the volunteers who was taking the family out was killed, shielding the child during the shelling. They were evacuated to the Kiev region near Belaya Tserkov. They found out that their house was destroyed at the end of March. They found a photo on the Internet.

They built the house with their own hands, even pouring the foundation themselves with Tatyana’s late husband. A very emotional family.

Now the family’s relatives have given them a one-room apartment where 4 people live: Irina with Gennadiy, daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter.

Tatyana and Igor live in Irpen and rent a part of a house that was also damaged. The family’s financial situation is very difficult. Renting an apartment is very expensive for them. They don’t have enough for anything because the money goes to rent. They are asking for a three-room house.
