The Velichko Family

Alexander, aged 67, and his wife Alla, aged 64, experienced the onset of shelling on February 24. That morning, Alla returned from work only to discover on the train that their village was under attack. They endured three months of living under siege, devoid of light and with gas disconnected. Cooking meals over open fires, surviving on canned goods and whatever humanitarian aid reached them, they sought refuge in their cellar.

Their daughter coordinated with volunteers to evacuate them to Kharkiv. Subsequently, they found refuge with relatives in Kryvyi Rih. After six months, news from neighbors revealed that their house was no more. Currently, they are sustaining themselves on pensions. Given Alexander’s status as a second-degree disabled person, they aspire to return to their land and village.
