To Ukraine With Love

The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation Is Sponsoring A Home For Velychko Family

The Velychko Family

Sergey Velychko (62), Lilia (51), Victoria (3.5), Grandmother Katerina (86).

On February 24th, as Sergey was getting ready for work, he saw the first launches of rocket artillery… The family spent a month under bombardment in the cellar. The food that was left in the cellar ran out after two weeks. After the last explosion hit directly into the cellar, the family couldn’t stay in their home anymore. The child stopped speaking, withdrew into herself. The family made the decision to leave during a lull between shelling and moved to Pisochyn. In front of the family’s eyes, their house was destroyed by a direct hit. Nowhere to turn, they live in conditions unfit for habitation. Sergey and Lilia are the guardians of their granddaughter; their daughter left the child with them even before the war. They desperately want to return home.
